You could say the Big Grassy Lynx bit a chunk out of the Fort Frances Mud Dogs.
The Lynx jumped all over Mud Dogs' starter Jodie Hood en-route to a 12-run first inning and never looked back in a 21-12 romp in Rainy River District Women's Fastball League action last Wednesday night at the St. Francis Sports Field.
A miserable opening frame saw a potent Lynx offence touch Hood up for 10 runs, who was then lifted in favour of Rachelle Yeo.
Yeo was welcomed to the game with another pair of hits and runs being scored as Big Grassy carried a commanding 12-0 lead to the bottom half.
The Mud Dogs (0-2) were able to cut into the deficit in their half, scoring a trio of runs on a pair of singles and a groundout on Big Grassy starter Nancy Indian to trim it to 12-3 after one inning of play.
But the Lynx (2-0) were just too strong and continued on with their offensive onslaught—adding another nine runs to their total while giving up the same amount en route to nabbing their second-straight win to start the season.
Indian earned the pitching win, and also homered, while Yeo was saddled with her second loss for the Mud Dogs.
Roxanne Handorgan also went yard for the Lynx in the lopsided win.
In other games last Wednesday, the Sabaskong Tebinaak (1-1) picked up their first win of the season with a 19-9 thrashing of the Dawson Tigers (0-2).
Rochelle Jack nabbed the win while Cass Teeple suffered the loss.
The Couchiching Raiders improved to a 2-0 with a narrow 6-4 win over the Northwest Bay Beavers (0-2).
Syd Jones garnered the win while Darcy Smith suffered her second loss of the season for the Beavers.
Seeing their first action of the season, the Red Gut Babes (0-0-1) battled to a 4-4 tie with the Fort Frances Angels (1-0-1).
The game was called early due to darkness.
Alyssa Windego toed the rubber for the Babes while Rylee Redford opposed her for the Angels.
And the Renegades cruised to a 15-3 blowout of the Manitou T-Birdies (0-2) to improve to 2-0.
Mackenzie Borger nabbed the win while Angel Medicine was tagged with the loss.
The Fort Frances Her-icanes (1-0) had the bye. There were no games played on Monday night due to the Victoria Day holiday.
Tonight's games will see the Mud Dogs hosting the Her-icanes in an all-Fort battle at the St. Francis Sports field, the Lynx will look to keep their perfect start to the season going when they welcome the Angels, the Babes will square off against the T-Birdies, the Tebinaak will tangle with Raiders, and Tigers will face the Beavers in Pinewood.
All games will start at 6:30 p.m. (weather permitting). The Renegades have the bye.
