Local 'birders' fare well

Members of the Fort Frances Badminton Club competed at the N.W.O.B.A Thunder Bay Open over the weekend, with great results.

Former Muskie Aaron Bujold won the men's 'A' singles title.

Natalie Mitchell and Kristin Moen teamed up to claim the women's 'A' doubles crown, defeating fellow locals Tayah Badiuk and Lauryn Marchant in the championship match.

Marchant and Bujold then joined forces to finish as the runners-up in mixed 'A' doubles.

Rainy River's Cole Tymkin scored twice in the third period to pace the host London Knights to a 5-0 shutout of the Windsor Spitfires on Sunday afternoon in Game 2 of their best-of-seven OHL quarter-final playoff series.

London led the series 2-0 heading into Game 3 in Windsor last night, with the outcome not known as of press time.

Game 4 is set for tomorrow night, also in Windsor.

Game 5, if necessary, would be back in London, with Game 6 to be played in Windsor on Sunday afternoon.

If the series goes the distance, Game 7 would be played on Tuesday night (April 2) back in London.

The Knights took the opener by a 4-3 score on Friday night, when Tymkin was held off the scoresheet.

Former Muskie Joe Basaraba scored the overtime winner to give the Fife Flyers a 4-3 victory over Nottingham in the U.K.'s EIHL on Sunday.

He also had a goal in the Flyers' 3-2 shootout win over Guildford on Saturday.
