The Fort Frances Lakers yesterday announced that forward Jack Bernie has committed to the University of Southern Maine to play for the Huskies' hockey program next season.
Bernie will join fellow Lakers' alumnus Maverick Lynes, who was a freshman with the Huskies this past season.
“We thank Jack for his three years with our organization,” said Lakers' head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan.
"His hard work and dedication to improving his development as a person—in his academics and on the ice—has paid off and he now moves on to reach further goals.
“Jack was a leader for our team, on and off the ice,” Strachan added.
“We wish him the best of luck at Southern Maine.”
In 54 games with the Lakers this season, Bernie tallied 17 goals and 15 assists for 32 points.
The Kenora native added a goal and two helpers in eight playoff games, helping the Lakers reach the SIJHL semi-finals against the Dryden GM Ice Dogs.
Through 162 career games with the Lakers, Bernie accumulated 43 goals and 43 assists, along with 106 penalties in minutes.
