If the Fort Frances Lakers keep getting this kind of offensive production from the back end, they will have their defencemen putting on shooting clinics for the forwards.
On the heels of blueliner Nick Minerva earning the SIJHL Gongshow Gear Inc. performer-of-the-month award for the second-straight month on Friday, teammate Roshen Jaswal yesterday was named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week.
Jaswal, 20, had a goal and two assists in helping the Lakers win a pair of weekend games to run their winning streak to eight.
The Burnaby, B.C. native has five goals and seven assists in nine games since rejoining the Lakers in late November.
Jaswal’s efforts also helped the Lakers (25-3-0-1) stay at No. 5 in the latest CJHL top 20 weekly rankings.
The top five remained unchanged since the last rankings before the two-week holiday break, with the Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL) sitting at No. 1.
The Soo Thunderbirds (NOJHL) are at No. 2, followed by the Penticton Vees (BCHL) and the reigning RBC Cup champion Portage Terriers (MJHL).
The Lakers head to Thunder Bay to play the North Stars tomorrow night, with that same squad back here Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
