Dylan Kooner’s comeback tour is getting rave reviews so far.
The Fort Frances Lakers’ forward was named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player-of-the-week in the SIJHL after notching four points in three games.
Kooner, 19, signed for his second year with the Lakers just ahead of the team’s regular-season opener against the English River Miners last Tuesday.
The Abbotsford, B.C. resident scored short-handed for the game-winning goal against the Miners, then tallied against Dryden in the Lakers’ home-opener on Friday.
Kooner then made it three goals in three games—after scoring only eight times all last season—and added an assist against the Minnesota Iron Rangers here Saturday night.
His four points currently leads the Lakers in scoring.
Meanwhile, the Lakers’ 3-0 start to the season vaulted them into the No. 8 spot in the CJHL’s top 20 weekly rankings released today.
That’s up four spots from No. 12 in the pre-season rankings.
The Lakers hit the road tomorrow to face the Thunder Bay North Stars (0-3-0-1).
The two-time defending SIJHL champs then are back home Saturday at 7:30 p.m. versus the Iron Rangers (5-1).
