Category:

What a way to cap an excellent season.

The Muskie junior girls' volleyball team swept their way to NorWOSSA gold Friday afternoon in Dryden with a straight-sets win over the host Eagles in the best-of-five final.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-15, and 21-19.

The Muskies had earned the bye to the final after finishing with a league-best 7-1 record during the regular season.

It was a different story for the Muskie senior spikers, however, as they lost in straight sets to the Kenora Broncos in their final.

Set scores in that one were 22-25, 22-25, and 15-25.

The black-and-gold had earned the bye to the final after finishing in first place with a 6-2 record.

In boys' basketball action, meanwhile, the junior Muskies dropped a tough 49-42 decision to the Broncos in the final to earn silver.

Sean Huziak and Brady Bodnarchuk led the way offensively for the black-and-gold, each netting nine points.

Wyatt Richards added eight while Michael Vanderaa chipped in seven.

Fort High had earned the bye to the final after finishing with a league-best 7-1 record.

And the Muskie seniors were routed 73-44 by the host Eagles in their final Friday night to also settle for silver.

Kobi Ward scored a team-high 14 points while Aaron Bujold added 12 in a losing cause.

The black-and-gold had advanced to the final after cruising to a 67-33 romp over the Kenora Broncos in the semi-final that morning.

Cole Kowalski scored a team-high 26 points in that one while Austin Brown chipped in 12.
