A six-point performance by captain Annalise ('CC') Hayes sparked the Muskie girls' hockey team to a 6-3 win over the Minot Majettes (North Dakota) yesterday afternoon in their final game at the Hockeytown Holiday Classic in Warroad, Mn.
Hayes scored her first of three goals just 3:57 into the first period.
Jillian Calder made it 2-0 at 6:26 on a feed from Hayes and Kelsey Langtry.
But Minot stormed back with three-straight goals before the end of the frame to go up 3-2.
Hayes netted a pair of goals in the second period to give the Muskies the lead again.
Langtry then fired scored at 7:09 of the final frame to put the black-and-gold up 5-3, with assists going to Avery Cates and Hayes.
Calder capped the scoring at 11:25 with a short-handed marker, with Hayes drawing the lone assist.
Kamryn Sandelovich earned the win between the pipes.
The Muskie girls are next in action next Friday (Jan. 5) when they head to Thunder Bay to take on the Midget 'A' Queens.
In boys' hockey action, meanwhile, the Muskies fell 5-1 to the Chippewa Falls Cardinals (Wisconsin) yesterday at the annual Ralph Engelstad Classic in Thief River Falls, Mn.
Jon Busch scored the lone goal for the black-and-gold in the third period, but that didn't come until Chippewa Falls already had built a 4-0 lead.
The Cardinals added another marker later in the frame to ice the victory.
Shots on goal favoured Chippewa Falls by a 23-20 margin.
Darian Klem finished with 18 stops in taking the loss.
The Muskies were back in action this afternoon against the host Prowlers to wrap up the tournament.
The squad then will head to Kittson, Mn. next Thursday (Jan. 4) for an exhibition game against the Bearcats at 7 p.m.
