Former Fort Frances Lakers' standout forward Lucas Debenedet is making the leap to professional hockey.

After a successful NCAA collegiate career at Northland College (NCHA), the International Falls, Mn. native has signed a pro contract in Europe with the Meudon Hockey Club in the France 2 League.

“We would like to wish Lucas the best of luck in the next step of his hockey career,” said Lakers' head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan.

"He was an explosive player for our team and moved on to accomplish a great college career.

“Hard work and being a good person has paid off for him on his journey to reach his goals,” he lauded.

In 96 career SIJHL games during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons, Debenedet scored 70 times and added 100 assists in helping the Lakers win the Bill Salonen Cup as league champions in both years he skated with the club.

Debenedet, 24, then went on to notch 40 goals and 51 assists across four seasons with the Northland College Lumberjacks.

He also recorded a helper in a three-game stint with the Knoxville Ice Bears of the SPHL last season.
