Add another name to the list of Fort Frances Lakers who will be with a different team next season.

The Lakers announced Friday that defenceman Jack Dunnell has committed to playing for the University of Mary Marauders.

The Bismarck, N.D.-based team will play its inaugural season in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) in 2018-19.

“Jack was an integral part of our defence core after joining the team in early December,” noted Lakers' head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan.

“His hard, physical style of play was what our team needed,” he added.

"He brought much added leadership to our back end.

“We are very happy to see Jack want to pursue his schooling and play the game further,” Strachan added.

“We wish him the best of luck.”

The Lakers acquired Dunnell from the Thief River Falls Norskies, in exchange for a player development fee, back on Dec. 1.

In eight games with the Norskies, Dunnell had a goal and two assists.

Then in 22 games with Fort Frances, the 21-year-old tallied four times and added six helpers.

Dunnell added two goals and three assists in eight playoff games, helping the Lakers once again reach the SIJHL semi-finals against the Dryden GM Ice Dogs.
