Court teams get split

All four Muskie court sports teams kicked off their NorWOSSA seasons yesterday against the host Kenora Broncos.

The senior boys' basketball team came away with a 71-58 triumph.

Aaron Bujold led the way with 20 points while Cole Kowalski, Kobi Ward, and Garrett Hyatt each had 13.

It was a different story for the junior boys, however, as they fell 61-51 to the Broncos.

Wyatt Richards topped the Muskies with 15 points.

Sean Huziak added 14 while Michael Vanderaa had 11.

In girls' volleyball action, the Muskie senior team lost a hard-fought, five-set match to the Broncos (15-25, 25-17, 25-21, 19-25, and 9-15).

But the junior dominated Kenora in a straight-sets win (25-5, 25-7, and 25-13).

All four teams will be back in NorWOSSA action this Tuesday when they host the Dryden Eagles.

In related news, the junior boys' basketball team is hosting a tournament today and tomorrow at the Fort High gym.

Teams from Atikokan, Beaver Brae (Kenora), St. Thomas Aquinas (Kenora), and Churchill are scheduled to take part.

Meanwhile, the Muskie boys' hockey team kicked off action yesterday at a tournament in Brandon, Man. with a 5-3 win over the Virden Golden Bears.

The black-and-gold next were slated to face the St. Paul's Crusaders (Winnipeg) today at 4 p.m.
