The goals were hard to come by in the first game of the Borderland Soccer League men's division playoffs.
A first-half goal was all they needed as second-place CJ Contracting blanked third-place Manitou Forest Products 1-0 last night in the opener of the two-game, total-goals semi-final at the St. Francis Sports Field.
After a mostly back-and-forth start to the first half, Aaron Bujold got hold of a juicy rebound off Manitou keeper Mark Faragher and blasted a shot home to open the scoring.
Despite some great chances from both sides, neither were able to add any further scoring in the second half and the game finished with that score.
Jacob Albright was steady when called upon, making a number of good saves, to nab the shutout for CJ.
The second-and-deciding game is slated to go tonight, with the winner advancing to face top-ranked Centra Pipelines in a two-game, total goals league final on Monday and Tuesday.
Centra has a bye to the final by virtue of its first-place finish in the regular season.
In women's division action on Tuesday night, meanwhile, La Place Rendez-Vous was awarded a default win over Al's Racquet Stringing in the regular season finale as Al's couldn't field enough players.
The first-place Voyageurs (7-2-1) and second-place Al's (2-7-1) will clash once again in a winner-takes-all championship final on Tuesday at the St. Francis Sports Field.
All playoff games will start at 6:30 p.m. (weather permitting).
