Careless hunter nabbed

Category:

A Wisconsin man has been fined $3,000 for an offence under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.

Brian Bates of Hortonville pleaded guilty, and was fined $3,000, for discharging a firearm without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for people and property.

He also received a one-year hunting suspension and must complete the Ontario Hunter Education Course before being able to apply for another licence.

Court heard that on Oct. 22, a Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conservation officer investigated and determined that Bates was standing on Cedar Narrows Road, in the District of Kenora, when he shot down the roadway at a bull moose that also was standing on the road.

Justice of the Peace Pat Clysdale-Cornell heard the case March 2 in Fort Frances.
