Busy time for hospital auxiliary

December is going to be a very busy month for members of the La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary.

Upcoming events include the “Christmas Lottery”—a 50/50 draw that will be made on Dec. 11.

There are 3,000 tickets to be sold, at $2 each, so we are counting on our membership to sell lots of them.

It would be wonderful if all tickets were sold.

Any help in selling tickets would be greatly appreciated. Please volunteer for this worthy cause.

Those willing to sell or purchase tickets can contact Irene Laing at 274-9560 or Judy Webster at 274-3190.

Tickets also are available at the hospital gift shop.

Remember, this is a good cause and monies raised will go toward our pledge to the Riverside Foundation for Health Care.

As well, the gift shop will be hosting a “Christmas Extravaganza” on Friday, Dec. 1.

This is a take on the usual “Lobby Sale” but will be held inside the gift shop instead.

Donations of gently-used Christmas items can be dropped off at the gift shop on Monday to Friday from 12:30-3:30 p.m.

This is a perfect opportunity for members to sort through their Christmas boxes and donate items no longer in use.

There also will be a bake table (baking can be dropped off the day of the event from 9-11 a.m.)

Don't forget to make that extra batch for this good cause. There will be an e-mail or phone call to members as a reminder closer to the event.

Finally, be sure to keep Monday, Dec. 11 open for the auxiliary's annual Christmas luncheon.

Diane Glowasky has been busy with plans to make this event festive for all.

This year, Emo, Rainy River, and Rainycrest auxiliaries have been invited to participate.

The luncheon will be held upstairs at La Place Rendez-Vous, with tickets costing $20 each.

Please join us in this celebration of the holiday season. It also will be lovely to visit with other auxiliary volunteers from throughout the district.

And rumour has it that St. Nick may appear so be good!

On a more serious note, the auxiliary once again has received an RBC grant of $500 for a second year.

This funding will be used to purchase tables for our events.

Meanwhile, the gift shop has some new items for sale, including some beautiful wooden signs crafted by one of our newer members.

Stop by to see the signs and possibly find a Christmas gift for friends or family.

The Phoning Committee is trying a new method to contact members about upcoming events through e-mails.

If you wish to be added to the e-mail list, contact Marnie Cumming at 274-3368 (also please advise of any change in your information).

Those without access to e-mail will continue to be contacted by telephone.

We are hoping this is a way to decrease the amount of work the phoners do for every event. It also may be an idea for the distribution of our newsletters.

Let us know what you think of this new method.

In other news, the auxiliary executive is in need of a vice-president and membership director.

If you are interested in either of these positions, contact Judy Webster at 274-3190.

The fall tea convened by Mary Jane Pearson was a huge success.

She would like to take this opportunity to thank all the conveners—old and new—for another amazing job, and thank you to all the volunteers who make this event so memorable.

The executive also would like to thank everyone for their support and donations.

Let's keep this auxiliary growing. New members always are welcome.

Memberships are available in the hospital gift shop.
