Bonthron nabs award

Robbie Bonthron’s generosity didn’t go unnoticed.
The Fort Frances Lakers’ defenceman yesterday was named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player-of-the-week in the SIJHL.
The 20-year-old native of Kaministiqua garnered five assists in a trio of Laker victories.
Bonthron’s 16 points this season has him leading the team in scoring by defencemen.
He also is second in the league in points by a defenceman, trailing only Brandon Schaber of the English River Miners (18).
As well, Bonthron is second on the Lakers in scoring, and an impressive eighth in the SIJHL scoring race, having recorded as many points as he had in his 50 regular-season games last year.
He is the second Fort player in a row to win the award after goalie Pierce Dushenko accomplished the feat last week.
The Lakers return to action tonight in Ear Falls against the Miners.
Then they’ll host the Thunder Bay North Stars on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
