Beavers sitting atop ladies' standings

Category:

The Northwest Bay Beavers are showing early on that they're the team to beat in the Rain River District Women's Fastball League this season.

Shae Smith homered to lead the Beavers (4-0) to a 21-9 romp over the Fort Frances Angels on Monday night.

Darcy Smith earned the pitching win while Rylee Redford was tagged with the loss.

MVP honours went to Connie Smith (Beavers) and Rochelle Jack (Angels).

In other games Monday, the Couchiching Lady Raiders pulled out a 15-13 victory over the Dawson Tigers.

Steph Racine nabbed the win while Nada Comegan took the loss.

Alicia Anderson was the MVP for Dawson while Racine garnered the accolade for Couchiching.

In an all-Fort battle, the Mud Dogs cruised to a 21-12 win over the Her-ricanes.

Rachelle Yeo had the win while Laureen Hill took the loss.

MVP honours went to Kailey Greengrass (Mud Dogs) and Taylor Pagee (Her-ricanes).

The Emo Renegades, meanwhile, rolled to a 23-7 rout of the Sabaskong Tebinaak in Barwick.

It was supposed to be a home game for the Renegades but the Emo diamond was not suitable for playing, causing the game to be relocated.

Mykenzie Borger picked up the win while Sheila Prince was tagged with the loss.

MVPs were Borger (Emo) and Savannah Prince (Sabaskong).

And Summer Leonard homered as the Manitou T-Birdies roared to a 18-8 victory over the Big Grassy Lynx.

Leonard also earned the pitching win while Rayne Gibbins suffered the loss.

MVP honours went to Allison Finlayson (Lynx) and Bev Cochrane (T-Birdies).

The Red Gut Babes had the bye on Monday.

Tonight's games, which all start at 7 p.m., will see Dawson facing the Babes, the Beavers battling the Renegades, the Mud Dogs travelling to Sabaskong, the Her-ricanes taking on the Angels, and Couching squaring off against Big Grassy.

Manitou has the bye.
