Beaudry rink still in hunt at nationals

The host rink has got the home fans cheering for the most part so far.

With Fort Frances-based skip Hailey Beaudry and Nestor Falls export Erin Tomalty at lead, the Lakehead Thunderwolves' women's curling team is in a three-way tie for second entering play today at the 2017 U-SPORTS/Curling Canada University Curling Championships in Thunder Bay.

The Thunderwolves, whose rink also includes the Thunder Bay duo of Kendra Lemieux at third and Emily Cooney at second, were at 2-1 after the first two days of play.

That has them even with the Laurentian Voyageurs (Sudbury) and the St. Francis Xavier X-Women (Antigonish, N.S.)

The University of Alberta Pandas (Edmonton) sat atop the standings at 3-0.

Lakehead topped the Dalhousie Tigers (Halifax) 8-5 in its opening game, but then fell 10-5 to the University of Regina Rams.

Beaudry then held on for a 5-4 triumph over the Ryerson Rams (Toronto).

The Thunderwolves faced Laurentian this afternoon, then go up against the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds tonight.
