Beaudry ousted

Category:

A national title just wasn't in the cards for Kim Beaudry's Northern Ontario rink.

The squad, which also is comprised of Barb Roy (third), Wendy Brunetta (second), and Kris Sinclair (lead), narrowly missed out on advancing to this morning's semi-finals at the Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Chilliwack, B.C. as they finished fifth in the Championship Pool with a 6-4 record.

In what ultimately proved to be their undoing, the squad lost both its matches on Tuesday.

Manitoba (6-4) edged Beaudry by a 4-2 final that morning before Ontario (9-1) roared to a 7-3 win that night.

Beaudry rebounded yesterday morning with a 4-3 win over Newfoundland and Labrador (5-5) and a comeback 6-5 victory over Nova Scotia, but it wasn't enough to earn them a spot in the semis.

Beaudry, Manitoba, and Nova Scotia all finished the Championship Pool with identical 6-4 records, but Manitoba earned the semi-final berth based on its head-to-head win.

The Championship Pool consisted of the top four teams in both Pool 'A' and 'B' crossing over and playing the teams from the opposite one.

The rest of the teams squared off in a seeding pool to determine standings for next year.

This morning's semi-finals, the outcomes of which weren't known as of press time today, pitted Ontario against Manitoba and Alberta against Saskatchewan.

The winners advance to the gold-medal final tonight while the losers will play for bronze.
