When the Fort Frances Men's Basketball season began back on November first, the goal was to come out, play some good basketball, get a workout, and have fun.
As the season progressed and standings came out, eyes started to shift to what playoff match-ups could look like.
Then last night, after 18 weeks of hard-fought league play, the playoffs began, as fifth place BDO (3-17) squared off against fourth place Revco (9-12).
Revco's five-man lineup for the night, with an average age over 40, definitely put the “Men" in ”Men's League and fought hard with no subs to rest them.
They jumped out to an early 9-2 lead on three consecutive three-pointers, two by Brad Wordas, and one by Mike Canfield.
BDO fought back with some nice ball movement and inside shooting by Todd Richards, as well as some smooth three-pointers by Jeff Campbell, who scored 14 of his team high 20 points in the first half.
Revco failed to capitalize on their foul shots in the first half going one for six from the line, and found themselves down by 29-38 at half time.
In the second half veteran Adrian Chapman showed his abilities to both agitate and to score as he put up nine hard earned points, while drawing fouls.
Brad Wordas' drives were difficult to stop, and BDO big man D.J. Mackintosh's attempt to stop him resulted in him fouling out around the midway mark of the half.
Revco managed to close the gap to within a couple of baskets a number of times in the half, with Conrad Dueck picking up some key points on the offensive boards, which helped him get a season high 10 points.
But in the end, key free throws by Wally Tabash and the running down of the clock kept BDO on top as they came away with very tight 63-61 victory.
Losing is never fun but as you can see from the photo below, Revco had a happy ending to their season as they played hard, while missing some of they top scorers as well as younger legs.
Big thanks also to Dave Petsnick and Revco for sponsoring what likely was the most fun team in the league!
