Bantam Leafs finish fourth

The Fort Frances Bantam 'AA' Leafs finished in fourth place at the 16-team SCHEELS 15U tournament held in Fargo, N.D. on Feb. 2-4.

After going 3-0 in round-robin play, the squad faced off against the Winnipeg Twins in the semi-finals.

The Twins exploded for four goals in the second period en route to an 8-2 drubbing of the Leafs.

Abbie Kenny scored both goals in a losing cause.

Isabella Fortes started in goal for the Leafs but was replaced by Jersey Masson near the end of the third period.

Then in Sunday's third-place game, the squad dropped a narrow 3-2 decision to the Minot Wolves.

Minot built a 3-0 lead by the time Paiten Kinnear finally got the Leafs on the board at 11:06 of the third.

The Leafs then pulled Masson with two minutes left in favour of an extra attacker—and it paid off as Tatum Glowasky bulged the twine just eight seconds later to trim it to 3-2.

But that's as close as Fort Frances got as they settled for the fourth-place finish.

The Leafs opened the tourney with an 8-1 rout of the Grand Forks 14U Phantoms.

Issy Taylor and Kathryn Fischer each scored twice while Abbie Kenny, Glowasky, Savannah McGinnis, and Kianna Antonick added singles.

Masson earned the win in net.

Fort Frances then cruised to a 6-0 shutout over the host Fargo 14U Freeze on the strength of five first-period markers.

Taylor, Fischer, Kenny, Glowasky, and Kinnear all scored in the opening 15 minutes.

Glowasky then capped the scoring 47 seconds into the second period.

Fortes earned the shutout between the pipes.

Then in the final game of round-robin play, the Leafs eked out a 4-3 victory against the Sioux Falls Flyers.

Taylor scored twice in that one, including the winner in the third period, while Fischer and McGinnis netted the other goals.

Masson earned the win in net.
