Aquanaut swims to eight medals

Ayiana Gagne made a big splash at the Northwestern Ontario Long Course Championships held Friday and Saturday in Thunder Bay.

The Fort Frances Aquanaut had a great weekend in racking up eight medals in the women's age 13-14 division.

Her haul included gold in the 50m back (35.59), silver in the 50m free (31.87), 100m back (1:15.08), 100m breast (1:27.38), 200m breast (3:19.32), and 200m medley (2:49.27), as well as bronze in the 100m free (1:07.41) and 200m free (2:28.67).

Her sister, Anna, also was impressive in taking home four medals in the same division.

That included silver in the 50m back (37.74) and bronze in the 100m back (1:22.91), 200m back (2:58.65), and 50m breast (48.31).

Piper Danylchuk was the only other Aquanaut to compete in Thunder Bay, with her best finish being fourth place in the 50m breast (47.66).

As for the local Cyclone Swim Club, two of its nine members were able to snare medals.

Logan McFayden had the best showing on the men's side in earning silver in the 50m back (37.37) in the age 15-and-older division.

Isabella Avis, meanwhile, claimed bronze in the 200m breast (3:45.08) in the women's age 13-14 division.
