Youth knitters

The Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre held a “Youth Knitting Night" yesterday evening for those eight years of age and up, bringing in community experts to help novice knitters learn the basics of the craft. Kathleen Guild-Gunderson of the Fireside Yarn Club, right, assisted a few novices knitters with "casting on," which is a series of techniques for adding new stitches onto a knitting needle. Depending on the amount of stiches that are "cast on,” knitters can make simpler projects such as wash cloths to large blankets or scarfs. The Fireside Yarn Club meets every Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the library and is open to both new and experienced knitters.
