Shoreline cleanup

Photo Album:

Hunter Ottoson showed the cigarette butts he picked up last Wednesday during J.W. Walker School’s “Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up.” About 40 students from Mrs. Gilbert and Mrs. Easton’s Grade 2 and 3 classes, along with 10 adults, cleaned the upper Rainy River shoreline from La Verendrye Hospital to La Place Rendez-Vous. TD Canada Trust, the corporate sponsor of the clean-up, provided T-shirts for all of the children. The most popular litter found on this year’s clean-up included 2,093 cigarette butts (about 500 of those were found around the red hut in front of the hospital), 464 food wrappers/containers, 97 straws ,and 82 plastic bags.
