Aaron and Sekina Scheibler loaded up a trailer full of bicycles that were collected from across the district for the “Bikes for Humanity” project. In total, 273 bikes were collected by both the Scheibler family and Free Methodist Church of the Holy Spirit in Fort Frances. The bikes will be refurbished in Thunder Bay, then sent to Africa to help create jobs and give people a mode of transportation. To help raise money for the project, the Scheiblers also are looking for a community organization with the proper licence to raffle off a “Schwinn Stingray” bicycle that was given to them by Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP John Rafferty for the family’s assistance with the annual Christmas dinner—a bike that doesn’t work quite so well in the countryside nor in Africa due to its tire style. Unwanted bikes also are still be collected, which can be dropped off at 213 Crowe Ave. here or by contacting the Scheiblers at 487-1425.
