Fort Frances Mayor Roy Avis and Donna Haney, who often works for the local Salvation Army, were the first to make a donation to the Christmas kettle campaign that kicked off Monday morning at Walmart. Getting an earlier start than normal, a kettle also is now up at Safeway while the ones at Canadian Tire and the LCBO will start Dec. 1. They will be collecting donations to help district families this Christmas until Dec. 23. To volunteer to ring the bells, call 274-3871.
