'Fall Harvest'

Photo Album:

Students from schools across the district visited the Nanicost grounds here last Wednesday and Thursday to attend the Seven Generations Education Institute's annual “Fall Harvest” activities.

Glenn Jourdain of Couchiching First Nation, top left, shared some of his experiences as a former student at St. Marguerite's residential school and explained to students how his time in school was very different from what they experience now.

Students also were able to watch fish (top right) and deer (bottom left) being gutted and butchered while learning the importance of the food sources to local First Nations.

Meanwhile, Robert Moore student Graeme Coats (bottom right) took his turn dancing on the wild rice—an activity that separates the grain from the hull and just one of the steps in the wild rice process that students were able to participate in.
