Cooking bannock

Students from St. Michael’s School gathered around the fire to cook bannock on a stick after learning about Métis culture as part of the Seven Generations Education Institute’s annual “Fall Harvest” preparations workshop yesterday at the Nanicost grounds. Despite some chilly temperatures, students from across the district participated in the two-day event, which taught many traditional skills such as filleting fish, tanning hides, and preparing wild rice, as well as offered lessons on story-telling and drumming.
