Plans are underway for the annual “Mall Day” on Scott Street, which this year will mark the BIA's 40th anniversary.
Scott Street won't be closed off for the June 28 event, which instead will take place entirely in the Rainy Lake Square.
“Mall Day” organizer Jennifer Horton of Curvy Chick said the new venue should work well.
“It's great—there will be more parking [and] businesses will still be able to do their sidewalk sales right in front of their business,” she noted.
“It's really exciting to have this venue downtown,” Horton added.
“We are looking forward to being able to use it.”
The event will run from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. that day.
As the event will coincide with “Market Thursday,” vendors also will be out selling their wares from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
“We're doing a call-out for local crafters and food vendors,” said Horton.
“The main thing here is 'local' so handmade, locally-made products,” she clarified.
To be a vendor at the event, call Horton at 270-6859 or drop by Curvy Chick (256 Scott St.)
At 11 a.m., opening ceremonies will be held to commemorate the BIA's 40th year.
There also will be a children's corner and several featured performers on the stage in the afternoon.
The event will conclude with a concert by local country singer and retired educator Doug Judson from 6-8 p.m.
