Vehicle stop nets charges

On Aug. 11 around 9:40 p.m., Rainy River District OPP members were on patrol on King's Highway in Fort Frances when they conducted a vehicle stop on the 500 block.

Officers began a Highway Traffic Act investigation and the male driver was arrested a short time later.

The investigation evolved into a criminal investigation and a 26-year-old La Vallee Township male subsequently was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a controlled substance (both Schedule I and Schedule II), and two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He also was charged with driving while under suspension and three counts of failing to comply with a recognizance.

The male was held in custody at the time of his arrest, and is awaiting a bail hearing here on Aug. 27.
