Town to purchase equipment for new fire truck

Category:

The town has a recommendation to approve the purchase of additional equipment for the new triple combination custom lumber fire truck at tonight's council meeting.

The cost of the additional equipment is just over $7,000, bringing the total net tender cost of the fire truck to over $600,000.

Council will also provide information to the public on a proposed application from the Fort Frances Church of the Holy Spirit which is requesting the land use for property at 1408 Eighth St. East be changed from “Institutional" to "Residential.”

The church is asking for the removal of the holy symbol on the property to permit a single-family residence there.

Meanwhile, Tour De Fort sent a letter to council requesting sponsorship for the 2019/2020 season which features Carl Dixon (formerly of the Guess Who), Ken Lavigne, The Slocan Ramblers, Benjamin Dakota Rogers, Lion Bear Fox, and Molly Johnson.

Council has provided sponsorship the past two seasons of Tour De Fort.

As well, the town will refer a letter to the Planning & Development Executive Committee regarding the bylaw that makes the operation of off-road vehicles illegal within the town of Fort Frances at tonight's meeting.

The letter states Fort Frances is one of few communities in Northwestern Ontario where the condition exists and says if the town wants to be a tourist destination it should offer people who would like to visit a chance to enjoy ATV and side by side activities.

Tonight's council meeting will follow the committee of the whole meeting, which gets underway at 4 p.m.

In-camera items include a property matter, personnel matters regarding the Community Services division, and potential organization restructuring.

Other business on the agenda tonight includes:

  • a recommendation to approve Watten Volunteer Fire Department's donation request for $300 as a part of their fundraising campaign;
  • a recommendation to approve a report re: Townshend Theatre technician fees;

a recommendation to approve a report re: the Fort Frances Lakers hosting the Dudley Hewitt Cup at the Memorial Sports Centre in 2020;

  • a bylaw to approve an agreement with Infratech Services awarded through a tender process (19-OF-07 zoom camera inspection of storm sewers); and
