Town, OPP to ink new lease

Category:

The town will ink a new building lease agreement, including a rent increase, with the province for the local OPP detachment to continue to utilize space at the Civic Centre.

The new five-year deal includes a 2.3 percent increase in rent and the removal of the provision for bonded janitorial employees, although these employees have to have security clearance by the OPP.

Last month, the town’s Administration and Finance executive committee requested Infrastructure Ontario raise the base rent rate by the most recent Consumer Price Index (CPI) rate.

It also asked to remove the new requirement for bonded janitorial workers as the town just renewed its contract with its janitorial contractor and this requirement likely would result in an increase in service costs.

Council is expected to authorize Mayor Roy Avis and town clerk Lisa Slomke to sign the new agreement, and pass the accompanying bylaw, at its meeting tonight—the final regular meeting of 2015.

The committee of the whole meeting starts first at 5 p.m., but will be in-camera for an unspecified period of time.

Other business on tonight’s agenda includes:

  • a quarterly report from Fort Frances Power Corp. CEO and president Joerg Ruppenstein;
  • a verbal report from CAO Mark McCaig re: court services concerns;
  • a report re: the Memorial Sports Centre dress code policy;
