Sunset splits pair

Tuesday night saw two really good, close games in the Fort Frances Men’s Basketball League–and one really good 40 minutes of exercise for two teams that both played hard but had different levels of skills on display.
In what ended up being a close game, Sunset Landscaping eked out a 49-44 victory over a determined Arctic Cat team.
Mark Heyens led Sunset with 18 points, with Cody Johnson putting up five “threes” in support.
Kobi Ward led Arctic Cat with a game-high 19 points.
With Revco only having four players on hand, RRFN was gracious enough to only put four of their five on the floor to make things a bit more competitive in the night’s second game.
Unfortunately for Revco, their attempt to stop the speed and skill of Sam Soderman and the rest of the team fell short, which resulted in them falling 91-54.
While that was a season-high point total allowed in the league, Revco had set an “attainable goal” of limiting RRFN to less than 100 points, which they were proud to accomplish!
Soderman led the attack with 39 points while Aaron Bujold finished with 31 points for Revco.
Mike Canfield added a season-high 12 points, and once again showcased his skills through his patented baseline under-the-hoop drives.
In what might be considered a stunning upset, and could set the tone for a deep run in the playoffs, last-place BDO edged Sunset 41-37 to put together its first two-game winning streak.
Johnson had a team-high 13 points for Sunset, but his usually reliable three-point shooting just wasn’t there and was sorely missed by his team.
If it wasn’t for Shelby Wolden’s hot shooting streak (which saw her go 4-for-5 from beyond the arc at one point in the first half), BDO’s margin of victory would have been much bigger.
Todd Richards led BDO with 15 points.
As it stands right now, and assuming things play out as expected, the playoff seedings would be:
•Wild card (BDO vs. Revco);
•3rd place (Arctic Cat) vs. 2nd place (Sunset Landscaping); and
•1st place (RRFN) vs. wild-card winner.
