School boards seeking input on proposed calendars

Category:

School boards from across Northwestern Ontario are looking for the public's input regarding the 2020-2021 school year.

The boards have released the 2020-2021 School Year Calendar Survey on their websites that are asking students, parents, staff and members of the public who are interested to weigh in on the calendar for students' next school year.

There are two calendar choices available to examine and vote on as a part of the survey.

In the first schedule, the school year for students in both the Northwest Catholic District School Board and the Rainy River District School Board would begin on Aug. 31 with a PA Day before classes begin on Sept. 1. The last day of school for students would then be June 25.

In the second schedule, students would start their school year after Labour Day with a PA Day on Sept. 8, first day of classes on Sept. 9 and the school year instead ending on Monday, July 5.

Both calendars feature the same number of instructional days in both semesters, with the same number of holidays, exam dates and PA Days. Christmas and March Breaks are also the same for both proposed calendars.

The short survey asks the user to identify their position (student, parent/guardian, staff or community member) as well as what school board they are involved with. Following review of the two proposed calendars, users are then asked whether they agree with either choice.

A link to the survey is available on the front page of both the RRDSB and NCDSB websites, and both boards note that the survey will be open for feedback until Nov. 29.

A Facebook post by the RRDSB said that feedback from the surveys will be taken to the Regional School Year Calendar Committee comprised of members from each participating school board for review.
