Former Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP John Rafferty will not be running in the June 7 provincial election.
Rafferty withdrew his candidacy Friday as the provincial NDP candidate in the Thunder Bay-Atikokan riding.
The 64-year-old cited treatment for a recently-diagnosed serious medical condition as his reason for doing so.
Rafferty was the NDP representative in the House of Commons from 2008-15 before being defeated by current Liberal MP Don Rusnak in the last federal election.
He also ran at the provincial level in 2003 and 2007, losing both times to incumbent Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP Bill Mauro.
His 2007 defeat was by a margin of just 36 votes.
