Property development pitched to council

Category:

The owner of the former Alexander McKenzie School property requesting a partnership with the town to turn the property into residential building lots.

At this evening's regular meeting, council will receive a letter from Steve Both, who indicated that there is potential on this property for 10 new, serviced lots, which he said are badly needed in town.

Both also acknowledged it would require a plan of subdivision, a short extension to the east/west alley, and a water/sewer extension likely from the north side of the property which he has spoken to Bay City Contractors about.

In the letter he recognizes this would cost “substantial dollars,” but said the money made back from the sale of the lots should recover those costs.

Also at tonight's meeting, council will receive a report surrounding the emergency budgeted capital purchase of a replacement ice plant condenser for the Memorial Sports Centre for the Ice for Kids' ice surface.

There was a mid-season failure of the Ice For Kids ice plant condenser which caused substantial amounts of ice to build up on the roof of the Ice for Kids' compressor room.

The replacement of the condenser was included in the 2019 capital budget.

Tonight's council meeting will follow the committee of the whole meeting, which gets underway at 5:30 p.m.

Several in-camera items are on the agenda first. These include litigation or potential litigation of Agency One matters; personnel matters, a letter of interest regarding security of property, interest in a laneway, and Moffat Family Fund grant allocation recommendations.

Other business on the agenda tonight includes:

  • a recommendation re: Ducks Unlimited Canada request;
