Orchestra holding string workshop

Category:

The Rainy Lake Community Orchestra will be holding its 40th-annual Summer String Workshop beginning Sunday, Aug. 13 at the Ranier Community Centre.

The Rainy Lake Sinfonia, for less-experienced players, will rehearse for one hour starting at 4 p.m.

Then at 5:30 p.m., rehearsals begin for Advanced String Orchestra.

Rehearsals continue during the week, culminating in a free concert at the Ranier Community Centre on Friday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m.

Visiting professional musicians from the U.S. and Canada share their experience and expertise with lessons, instructing, and conducting.

Area string musicians of all ages and abilities are welcome and encouraged to attend the workshop.

They will have the opportunity to improve their skills, as well as rehearse and perform symphony, classical, and popular music.

Private and group lessons, quartets and ensembles, youth and advanced orchestra will be offered.

Lessons and small groups are scheduled according to skill level and available free time.

This activity is made possible in part through a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, thanks to appropriations from the Minnesota state legislature's general and arts and cultural heritage funds.

The workshop is sponsored by the Rainy Lake Community Orchestra, the City of Ranier, and Friends of the Orchestra.

Registration is not required; string musicians may come to the first rehearsal on Sunday, Aug. 13.

All activities during the week are free.

For more information, those interested are asked to contact John Faith at 1-218-286-3281 or Margaret Sedgwick at 1-807-275-9663.
