New auxiliary bursary recipient chosen

Category:

The Legion Ladies' Auxiliary to Br. #29 met on Dec. 12 with 41 members in attendance.

The meeting was brought to order at 6 p.m. by president Alfreda Easton, followed by the minutes of the Nov. 14 general meeting and the Dec. 5 executive meeting being circulated and approved.

A short meeting was held to cover required year-end items and approval to pay accounts.

Because a previous recipient of one of the bursaries did not go away to school this year, a new recipient was chosen by the committee.

Graham Anderson received the $500 bursary sponsored by the local Legion Ladies' Auxiliary.

Congratulations, Graham, and good luck in your studies.

In other news, Br. #29 president Ray Watson presented Randi Roth with the Ladies' Auxiliary Service Award for her service and commitment to the auxiliary.

The Meals on Wheels dates for spring have been set for March and April.

As well, non-perishable goods were donated to the UNFC food bank and a contribution was made to the annual community Christmas dinner.

The auxiliary also supported the 908 Air Cadets and RCL Br. #29.

Preparations also continue for the Legion convention coming up June 14-17 here in Fort Frances.

Hugs and thank yous to outgoing Br. #29 president Ray Watson for a job well-done and a big welcome to 2019 branch president Ann Watson.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m. in order that the ladies could enjoy a delicious roast beef supper cooked and served by the members of Br. #29.

This was enjoyed by all and topped off with a dessert that had smiles on everyone's faces.

A big thank you to the members of the branch who put this all together.

A merry-go-round gift exchange then was held, with much laughter and confusion!

A Cuban Bingo also was enjoyed by all—even those who did not win.

The entertainment committee of Christina, Clara, and Marlene did a bang-up job of making the evening fun.

Thank you so much for your hard work to put this together and the beautiful decorations in the hall.

The December birthday winner was Cindy Noble (there were no other December birthdays).

Jan Gosman won the 50/50 draw, Dorese Harrison won the attendance draw, and Cindy Noble won the early-bird membership for 2019.

As another year draws to a close, here's wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year! All the very best for 2019!
