The Br. #29 Legion Ladies' Auxiliary met April 12, with 30 members in attendance.
The charter was draped in memory of Nancy Shaw, who had an incredible 76 years as an auxiliary member.
We also draped the charter in memory of Carol Affleck, who was taken from us so tragically.
One new member, Tarra Malyk, was welcomed by president Alfreda Easton while Rhonda Stevens-Bekesi was reinstated.
In other news, 17 “Canada 150” medals were ordered for the colour party and executive members. These medals are being donated by Hubert and Wilna Meyers.
Two members were installed in the following vacant positions: Clara Stainke (entertainment) and Jane Hayes (second vice-president).
A reminder the annual “Veterans' Night” will be held on Saturday, May 6. Information can be obtained by contacting the Legion office at 274-0129.
As well, information for the Legion sports camps now is available at all schools and the Legion.
Ten members attended the recent District 7 meeting in Ear Falls, where our auxiliary once again was awarded the new members plaque for auxiliaries over 100.
Our own Sylvia Gunderson was voted in as District Commander and Leslie Bell as Deputy District Commander.
Ear Falls did an excellent job of hosting this year. Fort Frances will be the host next year and plans already are underway for this event.
Meanwhile, the “Canada 150” tulips are poking through in the front flower beds. Be sure to watch for these blossoms at the Legion and around town.
The April monthly supper will be held next Friday (April 28), with doors opening at 4:30 p.m.
The menu will feature bone-in ham, salad, buns, scallop potatoes, beans, and home-baked pies—all for $15/plate.
Come out and enjoy, or take-outs are available for pick-up by calling 274-3772.
The attendance draw was won by Giselle Calder while the birthday draw winner was Margie Gibson.
Barb Ogden won the 50/50 draw.
The auxiliary's next meeting will be held Wednesday, May 10 at 7 p.m. in the Legion hall.
