Joint patrol nets charges

Category:

On Sept. 1, members of the Rainy River District OPP Marine Unit and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conducted a joint marine patrol of Rainy Lake near Fort Frances.

Officers checked many vessels and issued warnings under the Canada Shipping Act, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, and Ontario Fishery Regulations.

As well, a Fort Frances resident and a Minnesota resident each were charged under Ontario Fishery Regulations for possessing walleye of a prohibited size under a sport fishing licence.

The OPP and MNRF would like to remind boaters that fish caught and retained on Rainy Lake must comply with the designated regulations.

Anyone with information regarding offences in Rainy River District contrary to any of the above acts is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry at 1-877-847-7667 any time.

You also can contact your local ministry office during regular business hours.

Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.p3tips.com/273, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
