High school teachers to strike Dec. 4

Category:

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF) announced Thursday that their members will be engaged in a one-day, province-wide strike (full withdrawal of services) this Wednesday (Dec. 4) unless progress is made at the central bargaining table.

At this time, this one-day protest will affect all students in Grades 9 to 12 across the District, with high schools being closed to secondary students only, reported the Rainy River District School Board on Friday.

All elementary schools, including Grade 7 and 8 programs at secondary schools, will be open on that day.

However, in school sites which house both elementary and secondary students or which are adjacent to elementary schools, students and parents may encounter OSSTF picket lines and should review the general guidelines for crossing protest lines.

Bus service will not be operating for Grades 9-12 students on Wednesday.

Bus service will continue as usual on that day for elementary students. Parents and students should be aware that bus delays are possible. Information on busing is available from the Rainy River District Transportation Consortium website.

All secondary school events and extra-curriculars planned for Wednesday will be postponed, rescheduled, or cancelled.

Community use permits will continue as usual.

“We appreciate that job action is frustrating for families, students and staff. At this time, no other job action has been announced by OSSTF or the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario,” said the RRDSB in a press release last week.

“We will continue to monitor the labour situation and will provide updates to you as they become available.”

As changes in strike action can happen at any time, it is important that you stay connected and look for updates on the RRDSB's website, www.rrdsb.com.
