Football Muskies advance to final

Category:

It could be a championship Saturday this week for the Muskie football team.

The third-ranked Muskies dumped the second-place Maples Marauders 28-22 in their semifinal showdown on Thursday at East Side Eagles Field to advance to the CanadaInns Bowl championship game, where the Currie Division title will be up for grabs.

The final is set for this Saturday (Nov. 16) at 2:30 p.m. (time subject to change) at Investors Group Field, the home of the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Fort High will face the fourth-ranked Churchill Bulldogs, who advanced after upsetting the previously undefeated Springfield Collegiate Sabres with a 28-14 victory in the other semifinal on Thursday.

Muskie quarterback Brady Meeks was outstanding in the team's lone meeting against Churchill in the regular season, setting new single game Currie Division ('A') records in both passing yards (349) and touchdowns thrown (six) in his squad's 66-19 rout back on Sept. 27 here.

But it's the playoffs and anything can happen, as evidenced by the Bulldogs' upset win over the Sabres last week, and the championship game this week should be a doozy.
