DAN LIVINGSTON

Livingston, Dan

It is with great sorrow that the family of Dan Livingston announces his passing, with family by his side, on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.

Dan spent just over three-quarters of a century with us and we were so blessed to have him in our lives.

He grew up in Fort Frances, joining the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) as a young man, where he and Carol met. He served as a Recreation Specialist (Rec Spec) for 10 years and competed in many different sports.

After leaving the RCAF, he joined the Fort Frances Police. Sergeant Dan was very proud to serve in his hometown for 22 years before retiring. Everyone who interacted with him found him to be firm but fair. “Book ’em, Dano!”

After retirement, he and Carol spent their summers in Fort Frances and their winters in Arizona. He spent many hours at both homes working on his flower beds and his solar lights.

Graham would tease that he had so many lights that astronauts could use his yard as a beacon.

Dan was well-known for his whistling while riding his bike around town, organizing the next golf game, and keeping the vehicles in mint condition. He never missed his morning coffee with the guys.

He served as president of the Kitchen Creek Golf Course and was very proud of the Memorial Maples along the first fairway. He spent many hours at Kitchen Creek planting trees and sitting on the tractor mowing fairways.

Even though Dan was an avid golfer, having made six holes-in-one, he still was seeking that elusive perfect driver. Maybe he’ll find it now!

He could be found at the Legion on a Friday having “a beer” with the boys. He loved playing the piano and could learn any song by ear. His favourites were “Hey Jude” and “No Matter What.”

Dan was predeceased by his parents, Irvin and Helen; daughter, Susan; and brothers, Bert and Jim.

He leaves behind his wife, Carol; son, Ted (Cathy) and their sons; sister, Gail; brother-in-law, Ron; sisters-in-law, Carol and Natalie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 250 Church St., in Fort Frances.

If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada, 420 East St. N., Sarnia, Ont., N7T 6Y5.
