Council to vote on single use plastics ban

At tonight's meeting council will vote on a single use plastics by-law that was brought forward by Coun. Douglas Judson in November of last year.

Owner of Scott Street business, Ink Spotz Apparel, Scott Kreinke-Turvey will give a presentation regarding single use plastics prior to council's vote on the bylaw, which has been amended and recommended for approval by the town's staff.

A site control plan information session will follow Kreinke-Turvey presentation.

Also on the agenda, is a recommendation to council to establish lot prices for Erin Crescent.

As well, council will vote on a recommendation to award Tom Veert Contracting with the tender for Colonization Road West reconstruction and water main and sewer replacement.

The estimated cost is just over $2.4 million, which includes HST and a contingency allowance of up to $150 thousand.

Prior to the road reconstruction an open house for the public will be scheduled to ensure all property owners abutting the construction projects can ask questions and obtain first hand knowledge on the project, if the report is passed.

Meanwhile, a budget meeting that was slated for Jan. 20, 2020 is being pushed to Feb. 3, 2020 due to council being away for the annual Rural Ontario Municipalities Association conference.

The budget timetable was determined prior to council confirming their attendance.

The regular council meeting will follow the committee of the whole meeting, which gets underway at 5:30 p.m.

There are a few in-camera items on tonight's agenda.

There is an item regarding a proposed or pending acquisition or disposition of land by the municipality or local board on property matters and 5th Street West property.

There's also an item pertaining to personal matters about an identifiable individual, including municipal or local board employees: Information Request.

Other business on the agenda tonight includes:

  • a funding request for the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame - Fundraising Campaign
  • a report re: 2020 Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program Funding Agreement - Colonization Road West;
  • a report re: Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce Concerns;
  • a sponsorship opportunity with the Northern Ontario School;
  • A letter from the Diocese of Thunder Bay re:  Sister Kennedy Centre;
