College offering new program

Staff

A new program will be offered here in the new year to help adults finish high school, as well as work towards a post-secondary certificate or diploma all at the same time.
The Confederation College campus in Fort Frances will be offering the Adult Dual Credit program beginning Jan. 29.
The program is geared towards individuals over age 21 who did not complete high school but now want to get their Ontario Secondary School Diploma while simultaneously working on college credits.
The program is part of the School College Work Initiative, and promises to teach skills that can be used throughout life while learning in an adult environment.
As the student finishes their high school diploma, they already will have a head start on pursuing further education.
Beginning in January, the college course being offered for this dual credit will be TP155 Trades Studies I–an introduction to carpentry, welding, and automotive.
The program is similar to the dual credit programs offered to secondary school students in that it allows students to take courses that count towards both the OSSD and a post-secondary degree, certificate, diploma, or apprenticeship while still in high school.
This program is specifically for those over 21 years of age.
