Public advised to be on lookout for algae

The Northwestern Health Unit wishes to advise all people using lakes and rivers in the area to be on the lookout for blue-green algal blooms, which can occur in any body of water if the right conditions exist during the spring, summer, and fall seasons.

Blue-green algae thrive where water is shallow, slow moving, and warm, but they also may be present in deeper, cooler water.

Women’s symposium to make return

After a year off, the Women’s Health Symposium is returning to the Townshend Theatre here on Saturday, May 8 from 9 a.m-3 p.m.

This year’s theme is “Diversity—acknowledge, embrace, celebrate.”

“It’s about celebrating women of all ages,” said Peggy Loyie, one of the symposium organizers.

“Sizes, shapes, and colours,” added fellow organizer Linda Hamilton.
