Nexus helping breast cancer fight

Nexus Community Credit Union Ltd. was approached by the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to raise money for it.

Our branch was happy to participate in this fundraiser as a number of women in our community recently have been diagnosed with this disease.

As well, cancer in some form or another has touched the lives of someone we know.

We helped this cause by donating our time making perogies and selling them for $5/dozen.

We picked perogies because of the time of year it is. It is so close to Thanksgiving, where families gather for turkey or ham dinners that include perogies.

The recipe we are using is Cheryl Goldamer’s, who taught the rest of the staff how to make her perogies.

We posted a group on Facebook to advertise our fundraiser.

We thought we would get orders for 100 dozen, but to our surprise we received more than double our expectations in one day!

Our staff, which also includes Terri Anne Lundgren, Barb Everett, Mags Cumming, Teresa Dobie, June Haver, Denice Sjoblom, June Haver, Sue McFayden, and Krista Gushulak, have been making all the perogies and delivering them.

We would like to thank the Fort Frances community for ordering from us to support such a great cause.

If you wish to make a monetary donation to our team’s fundraising efforts, our team name is “The Booby Bunch” and you can make a donation online at

The registered organization that raises the most money for “Dress for the Cause” will have a $5,000 donation made in its honour to its local cancer treatment centre.

Nexus Community Credit Union Ltd. also will be holding a community barbecue on Thursday, Oct. 20 to help raise funds for the cause.

We are inviting everyone in the community to stop by for lunch and see our display around the branch.

We also are talking pledges in any dollar amount to go to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
