Did you ever stop to think how much our lives are enriched by volunteers?
Pause and think about how much our everyday common lives benefit by all the work that volunteers do. Without volunteers, cultural programs such as Tour De Fort, Kids & Company or the Border Concert series would never exist.
Without our volunteers, minor hockey for both girls and boys would not be possible nor many other sports programs. Without volunteers, fishing tournaments in every community of the district just wouldn't happen.
This past weekend, the Fort Frances Museum hosted “SnOasis 7" in the Rainy Lake Square. Even in the frigid temperatures, volunteers organized, participated and enjoyed a wonderful Saturday afternoon. Large numbers of families enjoyed the fire and bannock on a stick and the auger dogs. "SnOasis” has added to the winter community spirit of our community.
The Nestor Falls Winter Carnival hosted by the Nestor Falls Recreation committee and volunteers attracts families from across the region expanding the community for the first weekend in March. It could never take place without volunteers.
Auxiliaries supporting hospitals in Rainy River, Emo, and Fort Frances as well as Rainycrest raise countless sums of money purchasing equipment that supports health care. The hundreds of members of those auxiliaries are integral to our local hospital system.
We are fortunate to have so many people stepping forward in unpaid jobs to make our lives better.
Volunteering is thought to be the payment we make to live in a great community. If you are looking for a rewarding opportunity, there are lots of organizations looking for help.
