Got Muskie fever yet?
Well, you should given four Fort High squads are heading off to seek provincial glory next week.
The Muskie boys’ hockey team—fresh off its ninth-straight NorWOSSA crown—is heading to the all-Ontarios in Ottawa for a whopping 36th time, although OFSAA success has been hard to come by since the black-and-gold last won the gold medal back in 2001.
The girls’ hockey team, meanwhile, just captured its third-straight NorWOSSA title and now is gunning for back-to-back OFSAA medals after winning silver in Kenora last season.
Adding to the intrigue is that this year’s provincial championship is being hosted by Stratford—home of the St. Michael Warriors, who beat the Muskies 5-1 in the final a year ago.
Then there are the Muskie boys’ and girls’ curling rinks, who are off to the all-Ontarios in North Bay after claiming their respective NWOSSAA crowns earlier in February.
With the Muskie girls’ cross-country team going to OFSAA back in the fall, and other trips certainly possible with the soccer, badminton, and track-and-field seasons still to come, it’s already been another banner year for Fort High’s athletic program—a testament to the skill, hard work, and determination of our young athletes.
Let’s also not forget all the dedicated coaches who give so much of their time and efforts to not only build championship teams, but also hone the talents of their players, many of whom go on to future success at the collegiate, provincial, and even national level.
We wish all four Muskie teams good luck at OFSAA next week—and especially salute them for being such excellent ambassadors for their school and community.
