DYS stages Christmas concert

Lights are everywhere at this time of year, and the same held true at Donald Young School for its annual Christmas concert.

The students, through their performances, told the capacity crowd on hand that this was the season to celebrate the Light of the World bringing life to all.

Crisis Centre pushing donations to local cheer fund

If you are thinking about donating food or clothing to the Atikokan Crisis Centre for the upcoming Christmas season, staff there won’t refuse it.

But they’ll likely say there’s a better venue for those items.

“Donate to your local food banks and Christmas cheer boards,” Charene Gillies, executive director of the crisis centre, suggested Monday.

Area businesses feeling the pinch from lack of snow

While many people are enjoying the effects “El Nino” has had in creating unseasonably mild weather here in Northwestern Ontario so far this winter, those associated with snowmobiling clubs aren’t so happy.

In fact, the lack of snowfall and warm weather forced the 450-member Sunset Country Snowmobile Club to cancel its first run of the season, originally slated for last weekend.

Normiska moving forward with plans

About 50 people turned up at the Civic Centre last night to hear what representatives from Normiska Corp. had to say about their plans for a peat plant here.

Alex Bartholomew, general manager for Normiska, led the half-hour presentation, giving details on the company’s short and long-term operation plans.
