Election races stalled in district

It’s T-minus 30 days until the deadline to file nomination papers for the municipal election in November but the races haven’t attracted much attention yet.

As of Monday, no one had filed nomination papers for a seat on councils in Alberton, La Vallee, Chapple, Rainy River, Emo, McCrosson-Tovell, Morley, and Morson townships.

Cattle sale attracts big numbers

About 1,285 head of cattle were moved through the Stratton sales yard Saturday, with many steers selling in the $0.90-$1.10/lb range.

But the buyers were picky this year, and not every steer was able to fetch such a high price.

“The general feeling was where the quality was, the price was,” noted Ralph Hunsperger, president of the Rainy River Cattlemen’s Association.

Pair bring a piece of country to Toronto

It’s a tale that closely resembles the one about the country mouse and the city mouse. But this one was real-life.

Local 4-H members Stacey Angus, 16, and Simone LeBlanc, 18, took part in “Today’s Leaders, Tomorrow’s Issues,” a workshop Aug. 23-25 at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto for about 60 rural and urban youths from across the province.
