Police probing hunting fatality

Shortly before 4 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 24), members of the Rainy River District detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with the assistance of Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), responded to an incident where a man had been fatally injured while hunting.

The male has been identified as Brent Secord, 18 years old, of Timmins, Ont.

Cash calendar winners

Hazel Wilde, Doug and Sue Cuthbertson, and Russell Paterson of Fort Frances were among the $30 winners in the Rainy River District Mutual Aid Association's cash calendar draw for the week of Nov. 17-23.

Other winners that week included Reuben Kerb (Stratton), Annette Bryk (Atikokan), and Cindy Taronno (Shakopee, Mn.) who won twice.

Owners of recovered property sought: OPP

The Ontario Provincial Police are seeking public assistance in attempting to identify owners in relation to stolen property that was recovered from a residence in Fort Frances on Nov. 17, 2019.

A search warrant was executed by members of the Rainy River District OPP with assistance from the Northwest Region Crime Unit and as a result, police have arrested and charged one person.
